There are four types of behavioral adaptations: hibernation, migration, instinct and learned behavior.
Hibernation: Some animals go into a deep sleep where their body activities slow down due to seasonal changes and they can live off stored food. Hibernating animals store body fat as food before they hibernate. They depend on their stored body fat to help them survive during the winter. Hibernation is a form of dormancy. Dormancy is when animals adapt to cope with stress in their environment such as temperature or lack of food/water.
Migration: Some animals go on a long-distance journey from one place to another in search of a different temporary habitat because of climate, availability of food, season of the year, or reproduction.
Instinct: Natural behaviors that some animals are born with that they need in order to survive in their environments. For example, a beaver building a dam, a spider spinning a web, a bird singing, etc.
Learned Behavior: Behaviors taught in order for the animal to survive. For example an animal learning how to hunt or a child doing his homework.
